THE OLD MAN AND THE OLD MOON is a full-length epic journey told on a shoestring using clever staging, folk music, puppetry, and dozens of quirky characters. The tale of an old man who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon every month, to cross the seas in search of his missing wife…

Actors must be comfortable with ensemble work, British/Irish/Scottish dialects, and must have musical ability and confidence singing folk music, and ability to play instrument specified in the character’s breakdown.

Seeking:

Young Man 1
With quirky intelligence. To play an unenthused CLERK, an unhinged cook, COOKIE, an emotionally sensitive CARPENTER, a witty aeronautical engineer, SOLIMON, etc. Musical Ability a must, preferred instruments: PERCUSSION.

Young Man 2
With unpredictable intensity. To play an ardent sailor, CALLAHAN, a manic ghost, GABRIEL, who is both companion and antagonist to the Old Man, etc. Musical ability a must, preferred instruments: GUITAR and BANJO.

Young Man 3
With an innocent charm. To play the youngest, somewhat naïve, spirited sailor, LLEWELYN, whom the Old Man mentors and takes on as an apprentice towards the end of his journey, etc. Musical ability a must, preferred instruments: GUITAR and BASS.

Young Man 4
With a sarcastic and witty disposition. To play a strange and somewhat spacy sailor, MABELU, who lost his precious dog years ago, etc. Musical ability a must, preferred instruments: ACCORDION and PIANO.

Young Man 5
With eloquence and a strong range. To play the OLD WOMAN, tired of her life filling the moon with her husband looking to have an adventure of her own, the CAPTAIN of the ship - a great speaker, a witty aeronautical engineer, BARTLEY, the clerks young assistant, MICKEY, etc. Musical ability a must, preferred instruments: BANJO and PIANO.

Young Man 6
